Protective strategies for newborn sleep to minimize noise
Abstract: To identify newborn sleep protection strategies aimed at noise in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Literature review based on scientific articles in the CINHAL and MEDLINE databases, a total of 18 articles were selected, published between 2014 and 2022, in Portuguese and English. The most evidenced strategies concern investment in the training of health professionals, adjusting the sound level of alarms, using retractable latches on incubators, placing signs to alert to noise reduction, sensitizing parents/family members to adjust the voice level and meeting the needs of newborns. Knowledge of the strategies presented enables nurses to minimize the harmful consequences of noise, promote newborn sleep, raise awareness of its importance and guarantee improved care, with a view to promoting newborn neurodevelopment.
